FIXTURE STORY

FOLLOW LINCOLN CITY TO WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

This fixture is still months away, on 13 March. Today's table is useful background, but it is not a prediction of the positions either side will hold on matchday. If Lincoln City are involved in the promotion picture by then, this could be an away result with real weight behind it.

Recent results give Lincoln City four points from a possible fifteen, with one win, one draw and three defeats in their last five league games. Over their last five recorded league games, Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken ten points from a possible fifteen: three wins, one draw and one defeat. Those are results available now; the form heading into this fixture may be very different.

Lincoln City are 18th in the Championship after 11 league games, with 12 points. The pre-season outlook had them down as a side likely to face a survival fight.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were 5th in the Championship after 7 league games, with 14 points in the latest saved table. They started the campaign regarded as promotion favourites.

The destination is Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton. Work back from kick-off when deciding whether this is a day trip or a night away. For the best football-trip balance, stay around Waterloo Road, West Park or the central streets between Molineux and Queen Square/Lichfield Street. Waterloo Road gives the shortest stadium walk; the core city centre gives the broadest choice of food and late drinks; the station side is useful if the train is the priority. Check the matchday travel arrangements again nearer the fixture.

For Lincoln City supporters, the point of the trip is being there for the team. Once tickets and kick-off are confirmed, work out whether the journey home leaves time for a meal or a drink, or whether a night away makes the better day of it.

Table and form checked 21 October.

A Park View Hotel

A Park View Hotel

West Park / north-west edge of Wolverhampton city centre

The strongest all-round MatchdayHotels recommendation for Wolves. It is an independent 18-room hotel opposite West Park, less than a ten-minute walk from Molineux, with consistently excellent recent guest feedback for cleanliness, staff, breakfast and comfort.

  • Less than a ten-minute walk from Molineux, so there is no post-match transport dependency.
  • Recent Booking.com and Tripadvisor evidence is unusually strong for the local market, especially for staff, cleanliness, comfort and breakfast.
The match journey

The hotel's own football page says Molineux is less than a ten-minute walk away; recent Tripadvisor feedback describes it as an excellent Wolves base.

The trade-off

At roughly £155-£165 in the sampled dates, it is materially more expensive than many Wolverhampton alternatives.

WHY STAY HERE?

A Park View Hotel

West Park / north-west edge of Wolverhampton city centre

Our view

The strongest all-round MatchdayHotels recommendation for Wolves. It is an independent 18-room hotel opposite West Park, less than a ten-minute walk from Molineux, with consistently excellent recent guest feedback for cleanliness, staff, breakfast and comfort. It costs more than Wolverhampton's chain and budget options, but the combination of quality, quiet location, secure parking and genuine football-specific convenience makes the premium easier to justify for a one- or two-night match trip.

Why it suits this trip

  • Less than a ten-minute walk from Molineux, so there is no post-match transport dependency.
  • Recent Booking.com and Tripadvisor evidence is unusually strong for the local market, especially for staff, cleanliness, comfort and breakfast.
  • Quieter West Park setting than the busiest central streets while remaining walkable to pubs, restaurants and The Halls.
  • Free secure parking is repeatedly highlighted by the hotel and guests.
  • The hotel actively caters for Wolves visitors, including a current Wolves experience package and matchday food/parking offers.

Getting to the ground

The hotel's own football page says Molineux is less than a ten-minute walk away; recent Tripadvisor feedback describes it as an excellent Wolves base.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel is on the quieter West Park side of the centre. Central pubs and bars are still walkable, but it is not as directly on the ground-to-nightlife line as Garner.

Arriving by train

Walkable through the city centre, but not the best station-side choice. Choose Novotel if train convenience matters more than stadium proximity and hotel character.

The trade-offs

  • At roughly £155-£165 in the sampled dates, it is materially more expensive than many Wolverhampton alternatives.
  • It is slightly west of the main late-night bar cluster, so Garner is better if being immediately between the ground and nightlife is the priority.
  • Recent 2026 guest reviews referenced refurbishment/scaffolding; those reviewers said it did not disrupt their stays, but the current works status should be reconfirmed during editorial review.

Research price context

Typically about £155-£165 midweek and around £155 on the sampled non-match weekend dates. The hotel was much more price-stable than most local alternatives in this sample.

Garner Hotel Wolverhampton by IHG

Garner Hotel Wolverhampton by IHG

Waterloo Road / Molineux / northern city centre

The practical football-first choice. Garner occupies the former Redwings Lodge site on Waterloo Road and has been substantially refurbished under IHG's Garner brand. Booking.com describes Molineux as roughly a three-minute walk, while The Halls and the main central drinking streets are also close.

  • About a three-to-four-minute walk from Molineux according to current provider listings.
  • Directly on Waterloo Road between the stadium and central Wolverhampton.
The match journey

Booking.com currently describes Molineux as a three-minute walk; other current provider listings give roughly four minutes.

The trade-off

The Garner conversion is recent, so there is less long-run review history under the current brand than at A Park View.

WHY STAY HERE?

Garner Hotel Wolverhampton by IHG

Waterloo Road / Molineux / northern city centre

Our view

The practical football-first choice. Garner occupies the former Redwings Lodge site on Waterloo Road and has been substantially refurbished under IHG's Garner brand. Booking.com describes Molineux as roughly a three-minute walk, while The Halls and the main central drinking streets are also close. That makes it the best option for supporters who want the shortest possible walk to the ground and an easy route into pubs and bars afterwards.

Why it suits this trip

  • About a three-to-four-minute walk from Molineux according to current provider listings.
  • Directly on Waterloo Road between the stadium and central Wolverhampton.
  • The Halls and the Lichfield Street/Queen Square nightlife area are a short walk away.
  • Freshly refurbished rooms, air conditioning, bar/restaurant and on-site parking.
  • Current post-refurbishment reviews are markedly stronger than the old Redwings-era reputation.

Getting to the ground

Booking.com currently describes Molineux as a three-minute walk; other current provider listings give roughly four minutes.

Pubs and the evening

The hotel sits between Molineux and the city centre. The Halls is only a few minutes away and Wolverhampton's main bar/pub cluster continues south through Lichfield Street and Queen Square.

Arriving by train

IHG describes the station as less than a ten-minute walk; third-party current listings put it at roughly 12 minutes. It is therefore practical for rail arrivals as well as matchday walking.

The trade-offs

  • The Garner conversion is recent, so there is less long-run review history under the current brand than at A Park View.
  • Pricing is volatile: the sampled non-match weekend nights ranged from £71 to £199.
  • Some verified post-change reviews still mention fairly basic breakfast or minor room-detail issues.
  • Parking carries a charge rather than being included.

Research price context

Roughly £80-£127 across the sampled midweek nights, averaging about £101. Weekend pricing was much more volatile: two sampled nights were £71-£76, while one rose to £199.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Molineux Stadium

The ground

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

The all-seater stadium keeps older Wolves close through stand names, statues, the museum, City Archives and memories of the South Bank. Away locations can change, so ticket information for the fixture remains the guide to where visitors sit.

Recorded capacity
30,852

Views from the away section

Good overall, but upper-tier height and steepness materially affect mobility and comfort.

Supporter observation

A Southampton supporter guide describes the Steve Bull lower away section as a shallow, pitch-level deck set some distance back, making the viewing angle one of Molineux’s main away-day compromises.

Why the ground matters

Molineux takes its name from the estate that preceded football and has housed Wolves since 1889. Floodlights made it an international stage in the 1950s; the huge South Bank became a terrace memory. The 1970s stand project contributed to financial disaster, and Hayward's rebuild brought the modern ground. The site carries the rise, crisis and recovery together.

Matchday arrangements can change. Check current club guidance and your ticket before travelling.

Atmosphere & acoustics

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Close stands and the South Bank help create strong noise.

From the supporters

Supporter observation

Molineux's side-on away allocation gives you a good spread along the pitch, but it can make it harder for a large travelling support to keep one chant together from end to end. The home atmosphere also moves with form and match state, so a big fixture can feel very different from a flat league afternoon.

Songs and matchday traditions

Hi Ho Wolverhampton — an established pre-match/supporter singalong associated strongly enough with memory that it appears on a Wolves Foundation dementia playlist.

Those Were The Days — a long-lived Wolves terrace song tied to nostalgia, memory and the club's older eras.

The Liquidator — historically important to sections of the support but not part of the official pre-match schedule as of August 2026; the club decided against restoring it because of offensive chanting historically attached to it.

Led Zeppelin tracks — not terrace chants, but part of Molineux's matchday music identity through Wolves supporter and vice-president Robert Plant.

Singing 'Hi Ho Wolverhampton' around kick-off has functioned as a cross-generation stadium ritual, although exact pre-match programming can change.

Remembering the great figures is built into arrival at the stadium: supporters physically pass statues of Billy Wright, Stan Cullis and Sir Jack Hayward.

The South Bank remains a cultural reference point even though the old standing terrace disappeared in 1993 and the formal stand name is Sir Jack Hayward Stand.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Molineux Stadium

Food & drink

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Molineux is a city-centre ground, about a 15-minute walk from Wolverhampton station. For train arrivals, The Prince Albert is the best current meeting point when the fixture guide designates it: Wolves sent both Blackburn and Stoke visitors there in August 2026, after Twelve had been the usual away bar for much of 2025/26. Do not assume that arrangement carries across every match.

Food and drink around the ground

Most city-centre pubs and those closest to Molineux are home-led or use ticket checks, and colours can matter; the Great Western is excellent but should be treated as an unofficial, no-colours option. Away seating also varies between Steve Bull Lower and a Stan Cullis quadrant. Food is easier: Masala Express is the strongest current street-food lead, although queues can be fierce, while the stadium has straightforward £5 pies and a £4.50 sausage roll.

Derbies can bring extra controls: West Brom supporters were directed out via Camp Street after the September 2026 fixture.

The Prince Albert

The strongest current away-pub choice. It is close to the station, was officially allocated to Blackburn and Stoke visitors in August 2026, and now doubles as a curry pub.

Accessibility

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Arrange accessible seating or parking through your own club before travelling. Wolves lists a small allocation of away Blue Badge parking, with the pass issued via the visiting club. Bring the Blue Badge as well as the pass, and ask Fan Services about a steward-assisted drop-off near the Stan Cullis Stand if parking is unavailable. Wolverhampton railway station has lifts and step-free access to its platforms, but the walk to Molineux includes gradients.

Accessible journeys

Wolves provides accessible toilets, a Changing Places facility and bookable audio-description commentary. Your allocated stand and row matter: some upper-tier seating involves stairs, so discuss the exact route and seat with the club rather than assuming full step-free access.

Rail station access
Wolverhampton station has category A step-free access and lifts to all platforms.

Planning your arrival

Be at the stadium perimeter before the busiest turnstile period.

Rail, Underground & tram

Wolverhampton Station is another working tram stop by the railway station, but Wolverhampton St George’s is currently out of use. Check the return service before an evening fixture.

Recommended rail station
Wolverhampton (WVH), Corn Hill, WV1 1LE
Station to ground walk
Allow around 15 minutes to the stadium, plus the approach to the allocated away entrance; Wolves also lists a shorter seven-minute general walk.
Rail step-free
Wolverhampton station is National Rail step-free category A, with lifts to all platforms; this does not establish a step-free route to the away stand.
Tram — recommended
Pipers Row, around 15 minutes on foot to Molineux.
Tram — railway interchange
Wolverhampton Station tram stop is at Railway Drive, beside the rail interchange.
Tram — St George’s
The Wolverhampton St George’s stop is currently not in use.

Station to ground & away entrance

For most fixtures, head for the lower tier of the Steve Bull Stand and turnstile block 3. From Wolverhampton station, walk towards the city centre and follow the inner ring road around towards Molineux. Allow time to find Camp Street and the correct entrance rather than stopping at the first stand you reach. Your match ticket takes priority over any general guide.

Wolves sometimes assigns visiting supporters to the Stan Cullis quadrant instead, using a different entrance such as NF. Stewards may control the final approach, and entry includes ticket checks, searches and managed queues. Bags larger than A4 are not permitted.

Usual away section
Steve Bull Stand lower tier; typical entrance is turnstile block 3.
Away entrance alternative
Some allocations use the Stan Cullis quadrant, including turnstile NF; check the exact fixture and ticket.
Station walk route
From Wolverhampton station go towards the city centre, then follow the inner ring road around to Molineux; continue to the stand shown on the ticket.
Access and queues
Wolves operates staged queuing and security searches; arrival late can delay entry.
Bags
Bags larger than A4 are not permitted; the stadium has no luggage storage.
Turnstile opening
The away guide gives 90 minutes before kick-off, 75 minutes for midweek matches; confirm against the fixture update.

Buses & local travel

Wolverhampton bus station is a useful arrival point, with Molineux around a 12-minute walk away. National Express West Midlands services 3, 4 and 5 normally serve Waterloo Road beside the ground, but matchday closures mean you should check where the bus will actually stop. If you are driving from along the Metro route, Priestfield offers a legitimate free park-and-ride rather than a speculative residential space.

Park in a designated bay, pay for the tram into Wolverhampton and walk from Pipers Row. Free parking requires using the public transport service; the car park is not free football parking on its own.

Bus station
Wolverhampton Bus Station, approximately 1km or 12 minutes on foot from Molineux.
Local buses
National Express West Midlands routes 3, 4 and 5 normally serve Waterloo Road near the stadium.
Football-day local bus disruption
Waterloo Road has planned matchday vehicle closures; check live boarding stops and diversions.
Park-and-ride — Priestfield
Priestfield Metro park-and-ride has 148 free parking spaces and is on the tram route into Wolverhampton; tram fares apply.
Park-and-ride conditions
Free parking at TfWM park-and-ride requires use of public transport; non-users can be fined.

YOUR AWAY DAY · Molineux Stadium

Parking

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Do not rely on finding free street parking close to Molineux. Wolverhampton has matchday permit bays on roads including New Hampton Road, Dunstall Road and Staveley Road. The restrictions cover weekend and bank-holiday fixtures from noon until 6.30pm, and weekday fixtures from 6pm until 10pm. For the best-value straightforward option, use a council car park rather than searching residential streets.

Parking & park-and-ride

Fold Street and St George's are advertised at £3.50 for up to 12 hours, while most council city-centre car parks charge £2 for evening parking from 5pm. Check the actual entrance, tariff and walking route to your away turnstile before travelling. Kennedy Road is mentioned in a football parking guide, but we could not confirm unrestricted bays and matchday legality section by section. Do not treat it, or the nearby industrial streets, as guaranteed free parking.

A marked permit-only bay is not available to visiting supporters without the appropriate permit. If you want a known parking space, pre-book a legitimate driveway, an operator-managed space at Sainsbury's St Marks or Asda, or the club's Science Park option if offered for your fixture. Do not use ordinary supermarket customer parking for the match. Standard free shopping limits are not permission for a four-hour football visit.

Aim to park around 90 minutes before kick-off and allow at least four hours overall, longer if stopping for food or expecting delays. For a fallback, use Faulkland Street, Birch Street or Civic Centre council parking, or Priestfield park-and-ride and the tram. Official stadium car parks can be held after full-time while surrounding roads reopen.

Parking verdict
Booking is advisable if you require an assured pre-arranged option, but not essential if using a council pay-on-arrival car park; do not rely on free street parking.
Free option — Kennedy Road
Secondary guide says parking may be available; no matching current section-by-section restriction or matchday permission check was found, so not recommended as free.
Legal restrictions — New Hampton Road East/West
Both streets are listed in the matchday permit parking zone; signed permit-holder bays require an eligible permit during controlled hours.
Legal restrictions — Dunstall Road, Dunstall Hill and Dunstall Avenue
Roads listed in/added to matchday zone; check exact bay signage and other ordinary restrictions.
More practical details 22

Supermarket permission/time limit — Asda pre-booked
JustPark lists Asda Wolverhampton operator-managed bookable parking with a single entry/exit condition; check the exact location and times before payment.
Total dwell time
Allow at least four hours: pre-match arrival 60–90 minutes, around 105–120 minutes for football and half-time/stoppages, both walks and post-match exit; add time for food/cup extra time.
After the match
Roads are heavily congested; club stadium car parks generally reopen 10–20 minutes after full-time subject to safety officer direction.
Park-and-ride alternative
Priestfield tram park-and-ride is free when using public transport; tram ticket needed and parking is not reserved without a separate qualifying Save-a-Space booking.

Driving & road restrictions

For sat-nav, use Molineux Stadium, Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton WV1 4QR, then navigate directly to your chosen car park rather than the stadium gates. From the M6 south approach, visiting-club guidance uses Junction 10 and the A454 towards the city ring road. The ring road gives access to city-centre parking without needing to enter the stadium closure area. Waterloo Road closes around 90 minutes before kick-off.

Molineux Street and Sir Jack Hayward Way close around an hour before, followed by Whitmore Hill at 30 minutes. Reopening depends on the matchday safety officer, so approach times and departure routes need checking for each fixture.

Comfort & weather

Lincoln City at Wolverhampton Wanderers

The forecast loads when you open this topic. Comfort and shelter guidance is below.

Upper Stan Cullis routes can involve substantial stair climbing.

Shelter and exposure

If your seat is in the upper visiting area at Molineux, be prepared for a proper climb. There are roughly 96 steps just to reach the Stan Cullis upper concourse, with more steps to some seats, so supporters with limited mobility should factor that into the ticket choice.

Parking & park-and-ride

Do not rely on finding free street parking close to Molineux. Wolverhampton has matchday permit bays on roads including New Hampton Road, Dunstall Road and Staveley Road. The restrictions cover weekend and bank-holiday fixtures from noon until 6.30pm, and weekday fixtures from 6pm until 10pm.

For the best-value straightforward option, use a council car park rather than searching residential streets.

Matchday advice: Do not rely on finding free street parking close to Molineux. Wolverhampton has matchday permit bays on roads including New Hampton Road, Dunstall Road and Staveley Road.

Trains

Rail, Underground & tram

Use Wolverhampton railway station for Molineux. The ground is roughly a 15-minute walk through the city centre, although Wolves quotes a shorter estimate to the stadium itself. Allow extra time to reach the away turnstiles and for pre-match searches.

For a tram journey from Birmingham or along the West Midlands Metro, use Pipers Row and walk towards the ground through the centre.

Coaches

Away coaches

If you are travelling on an organised away coach, use the collection and parking instructions given by your coach operator. Wolves' visiting-supporter guide identifies Faulkland Street as the usual advance-booked coach parking area, around a ten-minute walk from Molineux. It is separate from casual car parking.

From the coach, follow stewards towards the turnstile block on your match ticket, normally the Steve Bull lower tier. Agree your return coach location before heading into the ground. Large fixtures can involve a controlled away-supporter exit, so do not assume you can retrace the same route immediately after full-time.

Usual visiting-coach location
Faulkland Street; advance-booked visiting coaches usually park there, according to Wolves’ away guide.
Coach car park walk
Wolves quotes approximately 0.7km/10 minutes from Faulkland Street to Molineux; the exact away entrance can add time.
Coach bay booking
Coach provider/organiser should confirm parking and collection location in advance.
Post-match away coach access
Away-supporter exit can be steward-controlled; follow match-specific instructions.
Buses

Allocated park-and-ride booking
TfWM Save-a-Space offers a charged booking of numbered bays at Priestfield when offered, from £3.60 a day.
Accessibility

Accessible journeys

Arrange accessible seating or parking through your own club before travelling. Wolves lists a small allocation of away Blue Badge parking, with the pass issued via the visiting club. Bring the Blue Badge as well as the pass, and ask Fan Services about a steward-assisted drop-off near the Stan Cullis Stand if parking is unavailable.

Wolverhampton railway station has lifts and step-free access to its platforms, but the walk to Molineux includes gradients.

Away Blue Badge parking
Wolves’ March 2026 FAQ describes five away spaces at the Stan Cullis car park, booked via the visiting club; a parking pass and Blue Badge are required.
Accessible drop-off
Wolves advises a steward-managed drop-off near Asda/Stan Cullis at Jack Hayward Way, Waterloo Road WV1 4DE; arrange in advance where needed.
Accessible route limitation
Hills and gradients are present on approaches/exit; do not infer a completely step-free walk from the station.
Away wheelchair seating
Wolves lists accessible visiting-supporter accommodation in Steve Bull lower and/or Stan Cullis; confirm the exact allocation with the visiting club.
Lift availability
Stan Cullis accessible entrance AE1 has staff-assisted lift access; Wolves advises against upper-tier bookings where stairs are difficult.
Changing Places
A Changing Places facility is located between the Steve Bull and Stan Cullis stands.

After the match

After the match

After the final whistle, walk back towards Wolverhampton city centre or your pre-arranged coach rather than expecting a quick pick-up outside Molineux. Roads around the ground become congested immediately, and the club says stadium car parks normally reopen ten to twenty minutes after full-time. That remains subject to the safety officer.

If you have parked in a council car park, allow for pedestrian crowds before joining the ring road. Visiting supporters can be directed along a controlled exit route; the September 2026 derby, for example, required away fans to leave via Camp Street. Follow the arrangements for your particular match, especially for a late train or coach departure.

Roads after the match
Heavy congestion immediately around the stadium and city-centre exits.
Official stadium car park release
Around 10–20 minutes after the final whistle, at matchday safety officer discretion.
Away exit controls
Wolves reports steward/police controlled routes; for the September 2026 West Brom fixture away fans had to leave via Camp Street.
Rail return
Wolverhampton station is approximately a 15-minute general walk from Molineux, before any crowd delays; check actual last service.
Suggested egress choice
City-centre parking farther from closures or the rail/tram network avoids waiting at a stadium-controlled car park but remains subject to town-centre congestion.

Where to stay

Stay in Wolverhampton city centre or around the railway station if you want an easy football weekend. Both keep Molineux within walking reach, while putting your return train, pubs and restaurants close at hand. Premier Inn Wolverhampton City Centre is one station-area option, although its parking is separately charged.

For a shorter walk to the ground, Waterloo Road has limited accommodation such as Redwings Lodge. The trade-off is fewer facilities immediately on that stretch than in the centre. An overnight stay is most useful when an evening fixture makes the last train awkward; check actual hotel rates and the morning departure before booking.

Recommended stay area

Hotel parking example
Premier Inn Wolverhampton City Centre lists £9.50 per night for hotel guests, managed by Horizon Parking; availability and booking terms should be checked.
Ground-area alternative
Redwings Lodge on Waterloo Road is identified as a budget, ground-near option by Football Ground Guide.
City-centre alternative
Novotel Wolverhampton is a near-station central hotel alternative discussed in 2026 hotel guidance.
